Here's to a Truly Happy 2017! Here are 3 Tips to Help You Make the Most of Your New Year

A new year is a time for new beginnings, reflection, hope and planning for the future. One of the top things on people’s lists in taking care of their physical health, you know, losing weight, exercising more, and eating better. You are likely already setting some goals like this for yourself and getting ready to put a plan into action.

There is one big thing, that should be on everyone’s list this year, which most people aren’t thinking of. That is making mental health a priority for yourself, your spouse and your kids. If you don’t think mental health effects you, you’re wrong. You don’t have to have a diagnosable condition, to be negatively effected by stress, past trauma or conflicts in your relationships. And if you do struggle with something more serious, it is even more important you pay attention to what your body is telling you and take care of yourself! Here are a few things you can do to start today:

1. Spend quality time with others where you truly connect with people you care about. Listen to them. Be present. Have fun.

2. Spend quality time with yourself, away from electronics being mindful. This will help you to enjoy the present, and release worry about the past and future.

3. Contact a trained professional, like me for a free consultation. Therapy can be an excellent source of support, even if it's just for a short time.

If you don’t know it already, mental health is just as important as physical health. After all, our mental health effects our physical health in countless ways. Stress, depression and anxiety can contribute to weight gain, how often we get sick, and can cause our bodies to hurt. And what about relationships? The way we connect with others deeply effects our mood, how we see ourselves and how we relate to the world. Who doesn’t want to have nurturing friendships, a great romantic connection, and feel good about themselves.

To all of this I say, put yourself on the list in a way you may never have before. You are worth it, and what effort you put into yourself now, is an investment in the happiness of your life for years to come! Whether you are trying to find meaning in your life, going through a hard time, or struggling with something greater I can help. Just call and we can figure it out together.
